The Chatbase alternative that writes the answers too
Chatbase trains an AI agent on content you already have, re-reads it once a week on Standard and Pro, and stops answering when the month's credits run out. HappySupport builds the content first: a help center whose articles come from a recording, translate themselves and get updated after every release, with AI answers that only quote those articles. Enter your website or docs address and we set your help center up in your brand.
HappySupport vs Chatbase: the short answer
Chatbase is an AI agent platform: you point it at your website, files or Notion, and it answers in chat, email, WhatsApp, Slack and other channels, billed in message credits. HappySupport is a support suite built around the help center: it creates the articles, keeps them current after every release and answers from them, at a flat monthly price. If your documentation is already complete and current and you want an agent on many channels, Chatbase is the cheaper start. If your answers are wrong because your docs are behind, the agent is not the problem, and HappySupport fixes the source.
These teams document with HappySupport
Where does the content behind the answers come from?

You click through a process once and the recorder turns it into a finished article: every click becomes a step with a labelled screenshot, and what you say becomes the text.
Chatbase does not write documentation. It trains on files, websites, text, Q&A pairs and Notion pages you already have, and its knowledge gaps view suggests Q&A pairs for questions it could not answer.
The articles your customers can browse and the answers the AI gives come from the same source.
What happens to the answers when the product changes?

After every release HappySupport reads the changes in your repository, finds the articles they affect and puts ready-made edits in front of you for review.
Chatbase re-reads your websites, Notion pages and tickets every 7 days on Standard and Pro, and not at all on Hobby. If the page it re-reads is outdated, the agent learns the outdated version.
You review and confirm. The AI quotes an article that matches what you shipped.
What do you get with HappySupport that Chatbase leaves to you?
Chatbase is the agent on top of your content; HappySupport is the content, the help center it lives in and the agent that answers from it. These eight jobs are the difference.
Create articles just by clicking
Click through the process once and the finished article is there, with labelled screenshots. No Q&A pairs to type, no PDF to upload.
AI article recorderAnswers stay right when your product changes
Handoff detects what changed in your repository and suggests updates to exactly the articles it affects, on GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket.
Documentation from code changesCreate articles from your code
Connect your repository, and article drafts come from what your developers have already written.
AI documentation agentEvery answer uses the same terms
You define terms once and every article follows them, so the AI never calls the same button by three names.
Your help center checks itself
48 checks across seven categories run continuously: broken links, outdated articles, missing images, structure, SEO. Included from Professional.
Documentation auditArticles translate themselves
New languages are created automatically and follow when the original changes. Readers browse articles in their language, not only chat replies.
Multilingual knowledge baseSearch and AI answers from the same articles
Semantic search finds the right article in the customer's own words, and AI answers quote only your articles, with sources.
AI chatbot for customer serviceA real help center, not only a chat
Every answer is also a page with its own URL that Google, ChatGPT and your support team can link to. Chatbase's Help page is a chat channel on chatbase.co.
AI help centerWhat is the difference between Chatbase and HappySupport?

As of October 2026, checked against Chatbase's pricing, security and documentation pages (sources at the end of the page). One Chatbase message credit is one reply on the default models; advanced models use 2 to 5 credits per reply.
What does Chatbase really cost, and when does it stop?
Chatbase is a capable agent with a low entry price. The numbers below show how credits are spent and what happens when they are gone.
5 credits
per reply on Claude 5.5 Opus, 4 on GPT-5.5 and 2 on Claude 5.5 Sonnet. Default models use 1 credit, and enabled actions can double the requests per reply.
$40
per 1,000 extra message credits through auto-recharge. Unused subscription credits do not carry over to the next month.
7 days
between automatic re-reads of your websites, Notion pages and tickets, on Standard and Pro only. Hobby has no auto-resync.
14%
of service issues are fully resolved in self-service, according to a Gartner survey of 5,728 customers.
What speaks for Chatbase, and what do we say?
Chatbase is used by more than 10,000 businesses, and several of its strengths are real. Each one is here with its source and our answer.
For Chatbase
An agent is live in minutes: add a website, files or Notion and it learns the content within seconds.
Our answer
True, and that is the right tool when your content is complete and current. When answers are wrong because the docs are behind the product, a faster agent repeats the gap faster. HappySupport creates the missing articles and updates the outdated ones.
For Chatbase
The agent works across website chat, email, WhatsApp, Slack, Messenger, Instagram and phone, and can take actions in Stripe or Shopify.
Our answer
That is a real strength. HappySupport answers in the help center and the in-app widget, your team replies to tickets by email, and nothing processes refunds or orders. If actions in your shop system are the core need, Chatbase fits better.
For Chatbase
Chatbase is SOC 2 Type II compliant and offers HIPAA-eligible Enterprise workspaces.
Our answer
True, and HappySupport has no SOC 2 report and signs no BAA. What we offer is hosting in Germany, a GDPR data processing agreement and no AI training on customer data. Chatbase runs its database on AWS us-east-1.
For Chatbase
Escalations create a ticket in Zendesk, Intercom, Freshdesk, Help Scout or the Chatbase helpdesk, with an AI summary and the transcript.
Our answer
On Hobby these helpdesk integrations are not included, and the Chatbase helpdesk inbox starts on Standard. In HappySupport, the ticket inbox, chat escalation and the widget contact form come with the help center.
How do you move from Chatbase to HappySupport?
Chatbase holds no articles of its own, so there is nothing to export. You move the sources: existing help center articles come across, and the Q&A pairs and files you trained Chatbase on become articles your customers can read. Once the articles are live, you swap the widget snippet.
Your existing help center comes across
If your articles live in Zendesk, Intercom or HubSpot, we import them with images, structure and a redirect for every old address. Old links keep working.
Q&A pairs become real articles
Paste a Q&A pair or a document into the editor and Felix, the AI agent included in every plan, turns it into a structured article you can review and publish.
Missing guides are recorded, not typed
The questions Chatbase could not answer are usually the guides nobody wrote. Record each one once and the article, screenshots included, is done.
One snippet replaces the chat bubble
The HappySupport widget goes where the Chatbase script was. It searches the articles, answers with AI from Professional and hands over to your ticket inbox.
“Every product update used to mean a week of updating screenshots and rewriting guides. Now HappySupport drafts the updates and we review them. My team finally works on customer success instead of content maintenance.”
Lisa AlberDirector of Customer Success at FlipWhat do teams ask before switching from Chatbase?
The questions teams ask us before they move.
Is HappySupport a chatbot like Chatbase?+
It includes one. HappySupport's AI answers respond in the help center and the in-app widget from Professional, quoting only your own articles with sources. The difference is that HappySupport also creates and maintains those articles, so the chatbot is not limited to whatever content you happen to have.
Is Chatbase cheaper than HappySupport?+
For a chatbot alone, yes: Chatbase starts at $40 a month with 700 message credits. HappySupport costs €129, €399 or €899 a month, and AI answers start with Professional at €399 with 250 answers. The HappySupport price includes the help center, the recorder, translations, the ticket inbox and the maintenance after releases.
What happens when we use up our AI answers?+
Search keeps working and nothing is billed automatically. You can add 250 AI answers for €100 a month. In Chatbase, the agent shows an unavailable message once credits run out, unless auto-recharge buys more at $40 per 1,000 credits.
Can HappySupport answer on WhatsApp or by phone?+
No. HappySupport answers in your help center and the in-app widget, and your team replies to tickets by email. If WhatsApp, Instagram or voice are your main channels, Chatbase covers them and HappySupport does not.
Can we keep Chatbase and use HappySupport for the docs?+
Yes. HappySupport publishes a public help center, so Chatbase can train on it as a website source like any other. You then get articles that stay current and an agent that re-reads them.
Where is our data stored?+
In Germany. HappySupport is GDPR compliant, signs a data processing agreement and does not train AI models on customer data. Chatbase states that its database and application run on AWS us-east-1.
