Git Handoff
Git Handoff is the part of the HappySupport suite that connects a code repository to the help center. It reads commits and pull requests on GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket, finds the help articles a change affects and drafts updates for them.
The team reviews each draft. Nothing is published until the team applies it.

Git Handoff: How It Works
- The customer connects a repository on GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket with read-only access.
- Git Handoff analyzes the commits and pull requests and groups the changes into topics.
- For each topic it lists the help articles the change affects and drafts an update for each of them.
- When no article covers a change, Git Handoff drafts a new article.
- The team reviews the drafts, edits them if needed and applies them.
- Detected changes can also be published as changelog entries, internally or in the help center and the widget.
Git Handoff: Code-Anchored Documentation
HappyRecorder stores a DOM and CSS selector chain for every step it records in the browser. The selector chain ties a step of a guide to an element of the product's interface.
When that interface changes in the source code, the selector chain makes the affected step traceable. Pixel-based recorders and visual editors have no such link to the code.
Git Handoff: Not Identical With
- GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket
- Code hosting platforms. Git Handoff reads repositories from them through their APIs.
- Mintlify, Readme, Redocly
- API reference and developer documentation tools. Git Handoff maintains end-user help articles, not API references.
